Santa Starts Using Zoom to Visit the Children of Central Texas
December 29, 2020

Christmas is no doubt looking different this year, but Santa is making the best of technology to continue bringing joy to children. An article by KXAN News titled "
Here's How Santa's Making Visits to Central Texas Children — and How to Schedule him for your Class!" describes how Santa has helped children after visiting different virtual classrooms in central Texas.
Tony Martinez has been San Marcos's Santa for 15 years. With the approach of the holiday season, he and his wife Joann Zavala came up with a plan to help children adapt to a new kind of Christmas. Through several Zoom sessions, they have been able to entertain pre-school children with songs and stories, sometimes coordinating with parents to leave presents at their door.
Zavala's previous experience using the app for her lessons was crucial during the process, so it's no wonder that her students were the first to get a visit from Santa. "I'm also teaching from home, Zooming with my pre-k students. So, I've kind of become somewhat of an expert," she says.
While online sessions can be tough on occasion, Martinez feels that children have responded well to Zooming and plans to continue doing more sessions for the rest of the month. "I'll still be here, being a loving Santa, through any situation that we come through," he says. Parents and teachers can book a Zoom session for their children by emailing tonyjoannmartinez@yahoo.com or via
